Silk Way West Airlines, based in Azerbaijan, has taken delivery of its inaugural B777-200F on September 30, 2023, marking the commencement of its fleet modernization initiative. This significant addition represents the airline’s first twinjet freighter.

The newly acquired aircraft, registered as VP-BMG and bearing manufacturer serial number 67454, was ferried directly from Everett to Baku Heydar Aliev International Airport over the course of September 29-30.

Fadi Nahas, the VP of Commercial Operations, emphasized the strategic importance of this delivery, stating, “Delivery of this aircraft marks a defining moment in our strategic plan to make Silk Way West Airlines greener, more fuel-efficient, and better positioned for growth. This expansion of the fleet will open up opportunities for Silk Way West Airlines to boost the volume of flights and extend our reach to additional strategic destinations, reflecting the growing importance of our home base of Baku as a regional and global transportation hub.”

Silk Way West Airlines currently operates a fleet consisting of seven B747-400FSCDs and five B747-8Fs. The airline has additional growth plans with four B777-200Fs on order from Boeing, alongside two B777-8Fs (with two more options). Furthermore, it has ordered two A350Fs from Airbus, showcasing its commitment to modern and efficient freighter aircraft. It’s worth noting that the airline’s parent company, Silk Way Airlines, operates an exclusive fleet of Soviet-era freighters, including three Il-76TDs and two Il-76TD-90s.
