Silversea Cruises has officially welcomed its latest addition, Silver Ray, during a distinguished naming ceremony held in Lisbon, Portugal. The event was marked by traditional maritime festivities, including the breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship’s hull by the newly appointed godmother, María Josefina Olascoaga, a renowned ocean scientist from the University of Miami.

María Josefina Olascoaga, who co-leads OceanScope—a project outfitting Royal Caribbean Group ships with ocean data collection instruments—was honored as the godmother of Silver Ray. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as Bert Hernandez, President of Silversea; Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group; and Alessandro Zanello, Captain of Silver Ray.

The event was further enriched with cultural performances, featuring bagpipe music, live dance shows, and renditions of the U.S. and Portuguese national anthems, enhancing the international spirit of the celebration.

Silver Ray, the second ship in Silversea’s Nova Class following Silver Nova, represents a leap forward in ultra-luxury cruising. The ship boasts an innovative asymmetrical design and over 4,000 square meters of exterior glass, offering unparalleled views and a bright, airy ambiance. As Silversea celebrates its 30th anniversary, the introduction of Silver Ray underscores its commitment to excellence and innovation in luxury travel.

Scheduled to embark on her maiden voyage on June 15, Silver Ray will initially cruise the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic to explore the Americas starting in December. “It is fitting that we are celebrating Silver Ray’s naming in the same year that Silversea celebrates 30 years of excellence, connecting our past with our future as we continue to lead in luxury travel and industry innovation,” stated Bert Hernandez, highlighting the significance of this milestone in Silversea’s history.
