Singapore Airlines Offers Jobs to 100+ Air India Pilots at Scoot

In a strategic move to deepen regional ties, Singapore Airlines is offering deputation roles to over 100 Air India pilots for positions at its low-cost subsidiary Scoot. The roles, based at Singapore Changi Airport, will give Air India captains and first officers international exposure and valuable training on Embraer aircraft, which are not part of Air India’s current fleet, according to Hindu BusinessLine.

The program highlights the growing cooperation between Singapore Airlines and Air India, strengthened through their cross-investment partnership. Air India is nominating qualified pilots for voluntary one- to two-year assignments, providing Scoot with experienced crew while enhancing Air India’s talent pool.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson described the arrangement as a “win-win,” supporting both Scoot’s staffing needs and Air India’s long-term transformation strategy following its privatization. Singapore Airlines executives, including Basil Kwauk and Hamish Maxwell, continue to play active roles in Air India’s revival.

Singapore Airlines owns a 25.1% stake in the merged Vistara-Air India entity under Tata Sons, allowing both airlines to share operational expertise, joint planning, and personnel exchanges. CEO Goh Choon Phong reaffirmed Singapore Airlines’ commitment to India, calling it a key growth market under SIA’s multi-hub strategy.

Singapore Airlines carried 2.4 million passengers between India and Singapore in FY25, with 65% connecting onward to Southeast Asia and Oceania. As competition grows from Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways, and Qantas, the partnership with Air India strengthens SIA’s regional market position and creates new growth opportunities.
