Singapore’s Changi Airport Expands Global Routes to Key Markets
Singapore’s Changi Airport Group is accelerating its international expansion by focusing on emerging markets in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East as part of its growth strategy. In 2024, the airport introduced new routes to cities such as Broome, Brussels, Vancouver, Taiyuan, Kertajati, and London Gatwick (LGW). Changi also welcomed new airline partners, including Aero Dili, Air Canada, Air Japan, and Peach Aviation.
Lim Ching Kiat, executive vice president of air hub and cargo development, highlighted Changi’s priority to boost connectivity, particularly in Asia. “In the near-term, we are focused on boosting our traffic and network back to pre-COVID levels and beyond,” Lim said during an interview with Aviation Week. Changi is strengthening links to secondary cities in Southeast Asia and deepening connections with China. The airport is working with partners such as the Singapore Tourism Board and Sentosa Development Corporation on joint marketing campaigns to promote Chinese cities to Singapore residents.
India remains another key market for Changi, with plans to expand connections to cities like Jaipur, Indore, and Surat. Lim noted the strong demand between India and Singapore, with Changi aiming to increase capacity on existing routes to accommodate growing traffic.
In the Middle East, Changi is targeting Saudi Arabia, with a particular focus on establishing direct connectivity to Riyadh. The airport is also exploring potential routes to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, destinations that are seeing increased travel demand.
Changi’s expansion into Europe includes potential new connections to Madrid, Stockholm, and Vienna. Lim described these cities as important cultural and business hubs with strong demand in Singapore and across Southeast Asia. The airport is also working to restore a pre-pandemic route to Warsaw, previously operated by LOT Polish Airlines.
To support these expansion efforts, Changi is investing in infrastructure upgrades. The recently refurbished Terminal 2 now features an additional 21,000 square meters of space and includes automated systems to streamline passenger processing, enhancing the overall travel experience.
