Sky Alps Dash-8 Q400

Italian airline Sky Alps has expanded its fleet with the addition of four Dash 8-Q400 aircraft previously operated by the now-defunct airline, Air Berlin. This strategic acquisition underscores Sky Alps’ commitment to enhancing its services and network.

The aircraft transaction was facilitated by leading aircraft remarketing experts, Airstream International Group (AIG), who officially disclosed the deal on August 7, 2023. Acting on behalf of Declan Taite of Kroll, the liquidator of NAC Aviation 9 Limited, AIG played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth transition of these aircraft to their new operator.

Sky Alps boasts a fleet composed entirely of Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, renowned for their capacity to accommodate up to 78 passengers comfortably. With a focus on connecting various European cities, including destinations in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and multiple Italian locales, Sky Alps operates out of its hub at Bolzano Airport (BZO) nestled in the picturesque Alps.

AIG’s proficiency in aircraft placement is well-demonstrated by its successful management of the sale or lease of 37 Bombardier aircraft, particularly the De Havilland Canada Dash 8 series, over the past seven years. Accumulating a remarkable 35-year history, AIG has orchestrated transactions involving an impressive fleet of more than 660 aircraft.

Air Berlin, initially established in 1979 during Germany’s division, evolved into a wholly owned German enterprise following the country’s reunification in 1991. However, operations ceased in 2017 when Air Berlin encountered financial turbulence, leading to its dissolution. As a result, major shareholders like Etihad withdrew their financial backing, prompting the distribution of Air Berlin’s assets among prominent carriers like Lufthansa and easyJet.
