Skylight Adds Third Global Express XRS Amid Sanctions

Russia’s Skylight Airlines has added a third Global Express XRS to its fleet in 2024, despite ongoing Western sanctions. The aircraft, registered as RA-73539 (msn 9349), first operated under Skylight’s ‘LSK’ code on August 17, 2024, flying from Bishkek to Tashkent and later to Moscow Vnukovo.
The 15.8-year-old Bombardier jet has a complex registration history. Initially registered in the Isle of Man, it was later moved to Luxembourg, reimported to the Isle of Man, and finally registered in Aruba as P4-OMA in March 2024. While under Aruba’s registration, it completed flights to multiple destinations, including Guernsey, Dubai, Istanbul, and Vienna, before its final flight to Bishkek on June 19.
Skylight’s fleet now includes three Global Express XRS jets, a Legacy 600, and a Legacy 650, all acquired after sanctions were imposed on Russia in 2022. The airline’s other Global Express XRS aircraft were also previously registered in the Isle of Man and Aruba, while the Legacy 600 was formerly operated by RusJet.
Skylight’s continued fleet expansion highlights its ability to navigate regulatory hurdles, maintaining operations despite geopolitical challenges. The Global Express XRS, known for its long range and luxurious interiors, underscores the airline’s focus on providing premium business aviation services within Russia and beyond.
