SkyWest Airlines, based in Salt Lake City, has announced an expansion of its fleet with the addition of twenty E175 aircraft, set to be incorporated under a new four-year contract with United Airlines, headquartered in Chicago O’Hare. This arrangement comes as an addition to a previously disclosed agreement, where SkyWest committed to acquiring nineteen E175s from Embraer, aimed to serve United’s network. The initial batch of aircraft from this prior agreement is slated for delivery starting this year, with a schedule stretching into 2026.

These twenty incremental E175s, owned by United Airlines, are poised to join SkyWest’s operations throughout 2024, although specific delivery timelines are currently being finalized in collaboration with United. This development underscores the strengthening partnership between SkyWest and United Airlines, enhancing the regional service offerings under the United Express banner.

United Airlines has yet to disclose details regarding the source of these twenty aircraft. Notably, SkyWest and Mesa Airlines are the primary regional operators flying the E175 model for United Express, with Mesa Airlines’ fleet including several units owned by United.

SkyWest’s operational portfolio is extensive, with the carrier already flying E175 jets on behalf of major U.S. airlines such as Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United. In addition to the E175s, SkyWest’s fleet comprises a mix of CRJ200s, CRJ700s, and CRJ900s, serving a broad network across the United States. The airline’s Part 135 subsidiary, SkyWest Charter, further extends its service capabilities with additional CRJ200 aircraft.

This fleet expansion not only reinforces SkyWest’s position as a key regional operator in the United States but also reflects the ongoing demand for regional jet services, facilitating connectivity and enhancing the passenger experience on behalf of United Airlines and other major carriers.
