SkyWest Sues Former Pilots Over Alleged Data Access

SkyWest Airlines has filed a federal lawsuit against two former pilots, alleging they accessed confidential employee data without authorization in violation of federal law.

The civil complaint, filed January 30 in the U.S. District Court of Utah, accuses Daniel Moussaron and Vikaas Krithivas of violating the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), breaching contract agreements and engaging in civil conspiracy. SkyWest claims the two obtained home addresses and personal phone numbers belonging to thousands of pilots through the company’s internal SkyWest Online (SWOL) portal.

According to the lawsuit, company IT logs from late August 2025 show that Moussaron initiated a series of activities to obtain pilot employee data, allegedly downloading contact details for hundreds of coworkers over several months. The complaint further alleges that Krithivas accessed and downloaded nearly 5,000 pilot personnel records beginning in early September 2025. The airline contends the pair coordinated their efforts by sequentially pulling records from the directory.

SkyWest states that in December 2025, pilots began receiving mass messages on their personal cell phones unrelated to company business. The airline believes the messages were distributed using information obtained through the alleged unauthorized access. In January 2026, the company says it received a complaint from a pilot who reported receiving an unsolicited call promoting an outside organizing effort.

The lawsuit asserts that the former pilots violated nondisclosure agreements prohibiting disclosure of confidential information and breached federal computer access laws. SkyWest is seeking damages and has demanded a jury trial.

In court filings, Moussaron disputes the allegations, stating that he was involved in organizing efforts to form a labor union and that the information accessed was viewable using credentials assigned to him. He argues that he did not bypass security controls or escalate privileges within the system. Krithivas, in his response, maintains that he believed the information was being gathered solely to facilitate union organizing.

Moussaron’s attorneys have filed a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction, arguing that the matter constitutes a labor dispute protected under the Railway Labor Act.

SkyWest operates regional flights on behalf of major carriers including American, Delta, United and Alaska Airlines. The case remains pending in federal court.
