Latvia’s SmartLynx Airlines Halts All Commercial Operations

Latvia’s SmartLynx Airlines has announced the immediate cessation of all commercial operations, marking a significant setback for the long-standing ACMI and charter specialist. Chief executive Edvinas Demenius said the decision followed an exhaustive review of all possible options to keep the airline operating, but current conditions made continuation impossible.

The carrier, formerly part of Avia Solutions Group, entered court-supervised restructuring on October 28. Since late October, SmartLynx has not operated any commercial flights, signalling growing instability prior to the formal suspension.

SmartLynx has traditionally been a key ACMI provider across Europe, supporting airlines with seasonal capacity and charter services. Its withdrawal from the market leaves a gap in the region’s ACMI sector at a time of growing demand from carriers facing fleet and crew shortages.
