SmartLynx Airlines to Transition to A320 Fleet from 737-8 by Mid-2025

SmartLynx Airlines is set to streamline its operations by transitioning to a single-type aircraft fleet focused on the Airbus A320 by mid-2025. The airline will phase out its 737-8 aircraft, which will be transferred to other carriers within the Avia Solutions Group (ASG). This shift aligns with the airline’s strategic goals and supports its continued growth.

The ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) specialist also confirmed plans to scale down its A321 freighter operations. Currently, SmartLynx Airlines operates a fleet of 17 aircraft, including 11 A320-200s, five A321-200s, and one A321-200(P2F). Its subsidiary, SmartLynx Airlines Malta, operates a more diverse fleet with 32 aircraft, including seven A320-200s, three A321-200s, three A321-200(P2F)s, six A321-200(PCF)s, one A330-300, and twelve 737-8s. Additionally, SmartLynx Airlines Estonia operates seven A320-200s, while the start-up Thai SmartLynx Airlines is under certification.

In addition to its SmartLynx-branded airlines, Avia Solutions Group holds or partners with several other passenger carriers, including Avion Express, KlasJet, AirExplore, Ascend Airways, and more. The group placed a firm order for 40 737-8 aircraft from Boeing in November 2024, with options for an additional 40 units. Currently, Ascend Airways is the only other ASG-owned airline operating the 737-8, with plans to expand its fleet, potentially including aircraft transfers within the group.

The fleet transition at SmartLynx aims to optimize operations, enhance efficiency, and align with broader growth objectives within the ASG network.
