SmartLynx Australia Rebrands Back to Skytrans

SmartLynx Australia (QN, Cairns) has reverted to its former Skytrans brand following the divestment of its European sister carriers by Avia Solutions Group and the subsequent shutdown of the SmartLynx Airlines name in Europe.
The airline confirmed the transition in a press release, stating that the change is limited to corporate branding and does not affect operational approvals. Services will continue uninterrupted under its existing Australian Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), CASA.AOC.0042, which remains valid through August 1, 2029.
According to the carrier, restoring the Skytrans identity better reflects the company’s long-standing presence in regional Australia. Management said the Skytrans Australia name aligns with the business’s commitment to providing reliable air connectivity across remote and regional communities.
Based in Cairns, the airline operates a mixed fleet comprising nine De Havilland Dash 8 turboprops and two Airbus A319-100 jets, according to industry data. Its core activities include regular public transport services, fly-in, fly-out charter operations for the resources sector, and selected ACMI contracts.
The rebranding follows broader structural changes within Avia Solutions Group. In late 2025, the group divested its European SmartLynx entities — SmartLynx Airlines, SmartLynx Airlines Estonia, and SmartLynx Airlines Malta — to external investors. Those units subsequently ceased commercial operations. At the time, Avia Solutions Group confirmed that its Australian and Thai affiliates would adopt distinct branding to align with active subsidiaries.
Avia Solutions Group had originally acquired Skytrans in January 2024 and rebranded the carrier as SmartLynx Australia in mid-2025 as part of a strategy to consolidate its ACMI operations under the SmartLynx name. However, with the European operations wound down, the group has opted to restore the established regional identity in Australia.
Similarly, the group’s Thai affiliate, formerly Thai SmartLynx Airlines, has also dropped the SmartLynx branding and returned to its original name, BBN Airlines Thailand.
The move signals a shift toward localized branding strategies while maintaining operational continuity in key regional markets.
