Tajikistan’s Somon Air has signed a deal to acquire two Boeing 737-8 aircraft from DAE Capital, marking its first order for Boeing 737 MAX jets. The new aircraft are scheduled for delivery in 2026 as part of the airline’s fleet modernization strategy.

Somon Air CEO Abdulkosim Valiev emphasized that the purchase aligns with the carrier’s long-term plans to enhance operational efficiency and expand its network. The new Boeing 737-8s will allow the airline to increase flight frequencies and improve passenger comfort.

In addition to fleet expansion, Somon Air has received approval from the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan to launch flights to London. The carrier is permitted to operate the route non-stop or via Tbilisi as an alternative option if demand for direct flights does not meet expectations. Currently, no airlines provide scheduled passenger service between Tajikistan and the United Kingdom.

Somon Air operates a fleet of six aircraft, including four Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 737-900ERs. The airline also manages a Boeing 787-8(BBJ) for government operations. It previously considered adding Boeing 737-8s before 2019 but postponed the decision due to the MAX grounding and the COVID-19 pandemic.

DAE Capital, the leasing company supplying the aircraft, owns 44 Boeing 737-8s and has an additional 43 on order. With these new additions, Somon Air is positioning itself for future growth, reinforcing its presence in Central Asia’s aviation market.
