SpiceJet to Launch Seaplane Operations in India by 2025

SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) is set to begin seaplane services in 2025, marking a major step in enhancing regional connectivity in India. Announced by Managing Director Ajay Singh, the airline plans to operate 20 seaplane routes in partnership with De Havilland Canada.
SpiceJet previously ran amphibious flights between Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati riverfront and Kevadia but paused operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Seaplanes have the potential to transform India’s regional connectivity,” Singh stated during a demonstration flight on November 9. “We are taking concrete steps to revive seaplane operations in India.”
This venture is backed by a recent INR30 billion rupee (USD355.5 million) capital infusion, led by Singh’s daughter, Avani Singh, who oversees the seaplane project. SpiceJet has secured rights on key routes, including Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong, to boost connectivity in underserved regions.
The partnership with De Havilland Canada includes SpiceJet providing engineering, technical, and logistical support during trials at various locations. Flights will commence once necessary infrastructure is established, bringing the promise of improved access and new travel options to India’s regional transport network.
