SpiceJet Window Frame Falls Mid-Flight, No Safety Risk: Airline

A SpiceJet aircraft operating a flight from Goa to Pune experienced a mid-air incident on July 2 when a window frame came loose and dislodged. The airline confirmed there was no impact on passenger safety and that cabin pressurization remained normal throughout the flight.
In a statement, SpiceJet said, “A cosmetic (interior) window frame on one of the Q400 aircraft became loose during the flight and was found dislodged. The part was a non-structural trim component used for shading and does not affect the aircraft’s safety or structural integrity.”
The airline clarified that the Q400 turboprop aircraft is designed with multiple layers of window panes, including a pressure-bearing outer pane, which ensures safety even if an interior trim piece comes loose. Once the flight landed in Pune, the frame was fixed following standard maintenance procedures, the airline added.
SpiceJet did not release further details regarding the specific aircraft or maintenance timeline.
However, the incident gained attention after a passenger posted a video of the dislodged window on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The passenger wrote, “#SpiceJet from Goa to Pune today. The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid-flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s airworthy,” tagging the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
The DGCA has not yet issued a statement. The incident comes amid rising scrutiny of aircraft safety across Indian carriers following recent in-flight issues.
