Spirit Airlines Adds More Flights From Boston
You can look at this in one of two ways.
Either this is just an airline adding more routes for what is expected to be a busy summer or this is an airline that wants to merge with a bigger partner and is more closely aligning itself with that airline.
Spirit Airlines, which announced last year it will merge with JetBlue only to have its prospects blocked by the Department of Justice this year, announced it is adding a bevy of summer flights from Boston Logan International Airport, which is one of JetBlue’s focus cities. In fact, some may even call it a hub for JetBlue, even though the airline is headquartered in New York and calls Fort Lauderdale a second home.
The new daily flights from Boston will travel to Charlotte, Dallas/Fort Worth starting June 7, Los Angeles beginning July 5 and Houston and Phoenix starting on August 9, 2023.
“It’s exciting to grow our service in Boston and provide new nonstop options to a variety of popular destinations across the country. We trust Bostonians will appreciate the great value and convenience we provide our guests at such affordable prices,” John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said in a statement. “Special thanks to Ed Freni and the terrific team at Massport for their partnership and this opportunity to deepen our New England ties.”
In a press release, Spirit made it a point to emphasize how much it is growing, including adding various jobs, including pilots, flight attendants and maintenance workers.
