Spirit Airlines Launches ‘Elevated To Economical’ Seating Tiers with New Perks
Spirit Airlines, widely recognized for its budget-friendly, no-frills service, is redefining its travel experience by introducing a variety of new offerings aimed at enhancing the value of customer experiences. Beginning in August, the airline will unveil a range of seating options that cater to both elevated and economical preferences, allowing passengers to tailor their flying experiences to suit their needs. This strategic shift marks a significant evolution in Spirit’s approach, providing travelers with four distinct tiers: “Go Big,” “Go Comfy,” “Go Savvy,” and “Go,” ranked from most luxurious to most basic.
“We’re unveiling a new era in Spirit’s history and taking low-fare travel to new heights with enhanced options that are unlike anything we’ve offered before,” stated Ted Christie, Spirit’s President and Chief Executive Officer, in a press release dated July 30. “We listened to our guests and are excited to deliver what they want: choices for an elevated experience that are affordable and provide unparalleled value.”
Understanding Spirit Airlines’ New Flight Tiers
The introduction of these new tiers marks a departure from Spirit’s traditional model, offering passengers a range of options designed to cater to varying preferences and budgets.
Go: The Economical Choice
For budget-conscious travelers, the “Go” tier offers the most affordable flying experience. This option provides a basic fare, with the flexibility to add amenities such as checked luggage, Wi-Fi access, snacks, and beverages at an additional cost. Passengers in this tier are presented with standard seat selection options, maintaining the no-frills essence that Spirit is known for.
Go Savvy: Budget-Friendly with Extras
Travelers seeking a balance between cost and convenience may opt for the “Go Savvy” tier. This package includes the base fare along with the choice of one carry-on or one checked bag, ideal for those who anticipate needing luggage space without breaking the bank.
Go Comfy: Added Comfort and Convenience
The “Go Comfy” option provides passengers with enhanced comfort, featuring a guaranteed blocked middle seat, a complimentary snack, and a non-alcoholic beverage. Additionally, travelers in this tier are entitled to one carry-on and one checked bag, offering a more relaxed flying experience.
Go Big: The Premium Experience
At the top of the tier list is “Go Big,” designed for those who seek a premium travel experience. This option includes all the perks of the previous tiers, with added benefits such as alcoholic beverage service and seating in the airline’s “Big Front Seat.” This exclusive seating offers extra legroom, wider seats, and superior cushioning, providing an unparalleled level of comfort.
Additional Changes and Expectations
Spirit Airlines’ introduction of the new seating tiers is accompanied by other notable changes. One significant update is the increase in the checked bag weight allowance from the current maximum of 40 pounds to an industry-standard limit of 50 pounds. This adjustment aligns Spirit with other airlines, offering greater convenience for travelers.
Furthermore, over 20 airports will implement priority check-ins and “front-of-the-line access” for Go Big, Free Spirit Gold, and Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders. Passengers in the Go Comfy tier and active-duty U.S. service members will also receive priority boarding.
In a move to enhance flexibility for all passengers, Spirit Airlines has announced the elimination of change and cancellation fees across all flight tiers. This customer-centric approach aims to offer greater convenience and satisfaction, reinforcing Spirit’s commitment to providing high-value travel experiences.
By launching these innovative seating tiers and introducing customer-friendly policies, Spirit Airlines is setting a new standard for low-cost travel, delivering a range of options that cater to diverse traveler needs and preferences.
