Sri Lanka is set to improve its global connectivity by welcoming new and expanded flights from leading airlines Emirates and IndiGo. The island nation, which is working towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on its tourism sector, has entered into a reciprocal interline agreement with Emirates and confirmed the resumption and expansion of services by IndiGo from India.

SriLankan Airlines and Emirates have signed a reciprocal interline agreement, enabling passengers of both airlines to access new destinations on each other’s networks through Colombo and Dubai. Passengers can book single-ticket itineraries and benefit from the convenience of seamless baggage transfers.

This partnership covers 30 routes operated by both airlines. For Emirates, it includes two new Indian destinations (Madurai and Tiruchirapally) and Gan Island in the Maldives. For SriLankan Airlines, it covers 15 cities across the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and the United States.

The agreement aims to enhance travel options and connectivity between Sri Lanka, the Middle East, Africa, Russia, the US, and India.

IndiGo, India’s largest low-cost carrier, is set to boost its connectivity with Sri Lanka by resuming and expanding its flights to the island nation. The airline will recommence flights from Chennai and Kochi to Colombo starting from September 10.

the airline will operate three weekly flights from Chennai and two weekly flights from Kochi to Colombo, providing affordable and convenient travel options for both leisure and business travelers.

The decision to resume flights follows the suspension of IndiGo’s services to Sri Lanka in May due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India.

Both SriLankan Airlines and Emirates express confidence in Sri Lanka as a travel destination and a gateway to the region. They remain committed to offering safe and comfortable travel experiences for passengers amid the ongoing pandemic.

Sri Lanka reopened its borders to fully vaccinated international travelers on August 1, implementing relaxed quarantine requirements and health protocols.

These developments signify a positive step toward reviving Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and strengthening its connectivity with key global markets.
