Sri Lanka’s newest airline FitsAir commenced operations with an inaugural flight from Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) on October 5, 2022.

Formerly known as ExpoAir, FitsAir began operations as a cargo airline, and is Sri Lanka’s first privately owned scheduled international passenger carrier.

In 2021, the airline decided to enter into the scheduled regional passenger market and now has a fleet of three Airbus A320-200 aircraft.

FitsAir will fly the CMB-DXB route three times weekly and, starting October 10, 2022, will commence thrice-weekly operations to Male’s Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives. All flights will be operated on the airline’s A320-200 aircraft.

The airline will also start operations to Trichy’s Tiruchirappalli International Airport (TRZ), located in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, from October 28, 2022.

FitsAir’s entrance into Sri Lankan skies comes at a time when the country’s national carrier Sri Lankan Airways is facing strife. The government announced in August 2022 that it plans to partially sell the national carrier in order to stem financial losses.
