SriLankan Reports Gains Under Five-Year Plan

SriLankan Airlines says its new five-year strategic plan is already delivering results, with passenger numbers and revenues rising in the first half of its 2025/26 financial year. The flag carrier, which launched the initiative in February 2025, aims to stabilize operations, grow its fleet, and double annual revenues within five years.
According to a company statement issued September 24, passenger revenue rose 10% while passenger volumes climbed 22% in the first five months of the current fiscal year. On-time performance also improved, reaching 74% in 2025 compared to 69% the year before, despite ongoing global shortages of engines and spare parts. The airline credited revised schedules and expanded services for the uptick in performance.
The plan envisions doubling revenue from under USD 1 billion to more than USD 2 billion and growing the fleet to 52 aircraft. Progress is already visible: two previously grounded aircraft returned to service this year, leaving only one jet out of its 23-strong fleet parked. In June 2025, SriLankan also received its first new widebody in seven years, with another expected shortly. The fleet currently includes A320s, A321neos, A330-200s, and A330-300s, with four A350-900s on order.
While the airline has faced criticism for losing money on 31 of its 45 routes, officials argue the strategy sets a clear path to sustainability. The government has pledged restructuring as part of broader public enterprise reforms, but SriLankan believes its turnaround plan positions it for long-term success.
