Star of the Seas Joins Royal Caribbean, Sets August Debut

Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Star of the Seas, has officially joined the fleet following its delivery from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The second vessel in the Icon Class, Star of the Seas will launch in August 2025 from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, offering weeklong cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at destinations like Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
The delivery ceremony took place onboard in the ship’s AquaTheater, attended by more than 1,250 crew members, executives, and shipyard partners. Key leaders included Royal Caribbean Group President Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean President Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm.
Star of the Seas features over 40 dining and entertainment venues across eight themed neighborhoods, including Thrill Island with the Category 6 waterpark—the largest at sea—and Chill Island with three decks of pools. Surfside caters to families, while The Hideaway offers an adults-only escape with an infinity pool. The AquaDome presents panoramic views and high-diving shows, and Central Park returns with more than 30,500 live plants.
The 1,200-foot vessel runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it Royal Caribbean’s third LNG-powered ship. It also includes waste heat recovery and shore power connectivity, furthering the company’s sustainability goals. A third Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, is planned for 2026.
Now heading to Cádiz, Spain, for final outfitting, Star of the Seas marks a significant step in Royal Caribbean’s evolution, blending innovation, sustainability, and elevated vacation experiences.
