Taiwanese full-service carrier Starlux Airlines is set to broaden its U.S. footprint with the launch of a new nonstop route connecting Taipei and Ontario, California. This exciting new service, which will begin on June 2, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy and will become its fourth U.S. destination. Ontario International Airport (ONT) now joins Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) as key gateways in the United States.

The new route will operate four times per week using Starlux’s modern four-class Airbus A350-900. Configured to seat 306 passengers, the aircraft is set to fly the 6,816-mile (5,923 nautical mile) sector nonstop, offering an enhanced travel experience with premium amenities and superior comfort. Starlux currently operates a fleet of eight A350-900s, with two more on order, ensuring the airline is well-equipped to meet increasing demand for international travel.

By adding the new Taipei-ONT service, Starlux Airlines is further expanding its Taiwan-U.S. network. The new route will contribute to a total of 28 roundtrip flights per week by July, providing approximately 14,700 two-way seats. In addition to the new route, the airline plans to operate 10 weekly flights to LAX and offer daily services to both SEA and SFO during the summer 2025 season, according to OAG Schedules Analyser data. This robust network expansion aims to capture the growing demand among leisure and business travelers between Taiwan and the United States.

The strategic decision to introduce a second destination in the Greater Los Angeles area is particularly noteworthy. According to the 2020 census, there are approximately 263,000 Taiwanese Americans residing in southern California, with about 167,000 located in the Greater Los Angeles area. This demographic represents a significant market segment, and the new route will provide these travelers with an attractive alternative to the busy LAX. Additionally, Sabre Market Intelligence data indicates that Taipei-Los Angeles was the largest Taiwan-U.S. city pair in 2024, with roughly 345,000 two-way origin-destination passengers. Meanwhile, Taipei-San Francisco and Taipei-New York also ranked among the top routes, underscoring the strong demand for direct connectivity.

The new Taipei-ONT service from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) also arrives at a time of renewed competition in the U.S. market. United Airlines recently announced plans to launch a route connecting Ontario and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, further highlighting the growing importance of ONT as a strategic hub. Ontario welcomed more than 7 million travelers in 2024—a 27% increase compared with 2019—and currently serves 11 airlines, offering connections to 21 domestic and three international destinations.

With this latest route addition, Starlux Airlines is well positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for premium international travel. The new service not only offers passengers a convenient, high-quality travel option but also reinforces Starlux’s commitment to expanding its global network and enhancing connectivity between Asia and the United States. As the airline continues to innovate and grow, travelers can look forward to an elevated travel experience that combines modern technology, exceptional service, and unbeatable convenience.
