STR: U.S. Hotels’ Slow November Disappoints After October Rally

The U.S. hotel industry’s recovery slowed again in November, with key performance metrics falling below October levels, STR reported.

November 2021 U.S. hotel occupancy was 57.6 percent compared with 62.9 percent for October. The November figure is 6.2 percent below November 2019 levels. November 2021 average daily rate was $128.50, down from $134.78 last month but up 2.4 percent from 2019 rates. Revenue per available room was $74.03, a 3.9 percent drop from 2019, as well as lagging behind October’s $84.75.

None of the top 25 markets reported higher occupancy in November 2021 than in 2019, although they did report higher ADR than all other markets.

New York City bested all other markets with 72.1 occupancy in November, but that remains 17.9 percent down from its 2019 benchmark. Phoenix at 71.3 percent and Miami at 70.1 percent were the only other markets with occupancy levels higher than 70 percent.
