Swiss International outlines winter plans

Swiss International Air Lines is already thinking about winter 2022-2023 in Europe with new routes, services, and working to ensure stable schedules.

The airline is looking ahead to the European winter with new offerings like premium economy for all of its 12 Boeing 777-300ER long-range jets. The airline will serve 83 destinations from Zurich and 26 from Geneva, with the fleet providing 80 % of what was delivered in 2019 plus a bit more.

In a July 5 statement, SWISS International Air Lines Chief Commercial Officer Tamur Goudarzi Pour made clear what the schedule’s priorities were – namely, during a difficult 2022 summer for commercial aviation – trading frequency for stable schedules to retain serving many destinations.

Many connections from Switzerland to European cities like Athens, Bologna, Brussels, Lisbon, London, Marrakech, Nice, Porto, Sofia, and Vilnius will remain on the SWISS schedule. So will also service Asian cities like Bangkok, Delhi, Mumbai, and Singapore. Of course, North American cities like Chicago, Miami, Montreal, New York City, and San Francisco will still be served.

The unspoken hope for SWISS is to avoid the reputational damage that other airlines, particularly in the United States, have had to go through in recent months. With the recent Switzerland Air Traffic Control system meltdown and cancel flights, as has British Airways, every airline is arguably right to be cautious about offering service.

Swiss International has premium economy on all the Boeing 777-300ERs now. The new seats recline forward and have an over-shoulder belt for extra safety. Plus, there are other creature comforts to help appeal to the leisure travel market.
