After more than 1000 days of being in storage in Amman, Jordan, the Swiss International team unlocked the cabin doors of their last stored Airbus A330-300, bearing registration HB-JHH. This significant moment marked the culmination of meticulous inspections and a thorough test flight before the aircraft embarked on its journey homeward to Zurich.

The comprehensive inspections encompassed detailed assessments of crucial components such as the engines and landing gear, guaranteeing the aircraft’s airworthiness. The cabin interior also underwent a complete evaluation. The dedicated SWISS maintenance team in Amman, in collaboration with their flight operations engineering team in Zurich, left no stone unturned during this painstaking process. Weeks were spent inspecting, testing, and, when necessary, replacing components to ensure the aircraft’s pristine condition.

With the triumphant return of the last stored wide-body aircraft, the Swiss International long-haul fleet stands whole once more and is fully prepared for service from our key hubs in Zurich and Geneva. The total fleet of A330-300s is 14 as of Aug. 2023.

The Airbus A330-300 and A340-300 is the third most common type in the Swiss International fleet. The A330/A340 are wide-body jets that can seat between 250 and 350 passengers and fly up to 13,500 km, 8,300 miles. The A330 and A340 are mainly used for long-haul routes to North America, South America, Asia, and Africa. The A340-300 models have been refurbished with new cabins and engines to improve their efficiency and comfort.

SWISS has unveiled exciting plans for the summer of 2023, including the introduction of two new long-haul routes originating from Zurich (ZRH) to Washington DC (IAD) and Toronto (YYZ).
