Swiss to Operate A330-300 on Zurich–Geneva Route

Swiss International Air Lines (LX, Zurich) will operate an Airbus A330-300 once daily between Zurich and Geneva from September 1 to September 24, the carrier confirmed. The move is intended for crew training, allowing pilots to maintain the legally required number of recent take-offs and landings on the A330 type.

A Swiss spokesperson explained that the short-haul domestic deployment is designed to ensure flight crews remain current on the widebody aircraft without disrupting the A330-300’s usual long-haul schedule. The temporary operation will not affect other routes typically served by the aircraft.

In addition, Swiss has scheduled a one-off Boeing 777-300ER flight on the Zurich–Geneva route for October 18, according to ch-aviation data.

Swiss operates a fleet of fourteen A330-300s, primarily deployed on long-haul services from Zurich to destinations including Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Delhi, Dubai, Montréal, Mumbai, New York JFK, New York Newark, Tel Aviv, Toronto Pearson, and Washington Dulles. The aircraft also serves the Geneva–New York JFK route.

The Zurich–Geneva A330-300 flights will provide passengers with a rare opportunity to experience a widebody aircraft on a short domestic journey, while ensuring the airline’s pilots meet regulatory training requirements ahead of the busy winter travel season.
