SWISS Unveils First A350 with ‘Wanderlust’ Livery

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has officially revealed its first Airbus A350-900, debuting a one-of-a-kind livery titled “Wanderlust” at the Airbus facility in Toulouse on June 24, 2025. This marks the first time the specially designed artwork, which was announced earlier in the year, has been showcased on a completed aircraft.

The “Wanderlust” livery is a vibrant celebration of Swiss culture, history, and natural beauty, featuring over 360 hand-applied illustrations including dragons, bears, marmots, the legendary Wilhelm Tell’s apple arrow, Helvetia, and even rock icon Freddie Mercury. SWISS describes the design as a “love letter to Switzerland,” incorporating playful and creative representations of the country’s iconic landmarks and traditions. The paintwork spans an impressive 380 square meters and was applied with millimeter-level precision.

According to SWISS, the A350-900’s striking appearance transforms the aircraft into a flying canvas that blends technical innovation with artistic storytelling. The airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach, shared her excitement on LinkedIn, saying, “Today in Toulouse, our very first Airbus A350-900 leaves the hangar – now dressed in its striking special livery Wanderlust. This A350 represents the future of our fleet – efficient, elegant, and full of character.”

The aircraft, the first of 10 A350-900s set to be delivered to SWISS between 2025 and 2031, is part of a larger 25-aircraft order made by the Lufthansa Group in 2019. The new jets will be used to replace older long-haul aircraft and support future network growth, aligning with the airline’s commitment to modernize its fleet with more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly models.

Following its unveiling, the first A350-900 will undergo final testing in Toulouse before being delivered to Zurich later this summer. Once in service, it will operate long-haul flights for SWISS, introducing passengers to an upgraded onboard experience with the airline’s new four-class layout. The aircraft will offer three exclusive first class suites, 45 business class seats, 38 premium economy seats, and 156 in economy class.

The debut of the “Wanderlust” livery represents more than just a visual statement—it symbolizes a shift in fleet strategy and a renewed focus on passenger experience. As SWISS prepares to welcome this aircraft into commercial service, it blends Swiss precision and creativity with cutting-edge aviation technology, making it a powerful ambassador for the airline both on the ground and in the skies.
