TAAG Angola Airlines announced on October 10th that it is enhancing its fleet by ordering four fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner widebody jets.

Eduardo Fairen, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, emphasized their commitment to a diverse fleet to cater to various flight types, especially intercontinental connections. He highlighted the 787 Dreamliner as a modern, efficient, and appropriately sized option that aligns with their goal of improving the passenger experience and replacing their current widebody fleet.

According to Anbessie Yitbarek, Boeing’s Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Africa, the addition of the 787 Dreamliner will enable TAAG Angola Airlines to introduce new routes and expand their international network. The Dreamliner’s efficiency and passenger comfort are expected to play a pivotal role in TAAG’s fleet modernization strategy.

Currently, TAAG Angola Airlines operates a fleet consisting of five 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft, three 777-200ERs, and seven 737-700s, serving 12 destinations across Africa, Europe, South America, and China.

Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook for Africa forecasts a demand for 1,025 airplanes over the next two decades. African air traffic growth is projected at an impressive 7.4%, surpassing the global average of 6.1%.

Since its introduction in 2011, the 787 family of aircraft has enabled over 370 new nonstop routes worldwide. The Dreamliner significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared to its predecessors. Passengers benefit from larger windows, improved cabin humidity, lower cabin altitude for enhanced comfort, spacious overhead bins, soothing LED lighting, and turbulence-detection technology for a smoother ride.

TAAG Angola Airlines, founded in 1938 and headquartered in Luanda, Angola’s capital city, has been a vital link connecting Angolans with key domestic and international markets for over 80 years. Recognized globally for its robust high-yield market, TAAG boasts a network spanning 12 domestic and 13 international destinations.
