TAAG Angola Airlines (DT) has expanded its fleet with the addition of its inaugural B737-800(BCF), marking the carrier’s entry into dedicated freighter operations. The aircraft, registered as D2-TBU (msn 33552), was delivered to Luanda 4 De Fevereiro in mid-December 2023, having undergone conversion in mid-September the same year.

After three months of being parked in Luanda, the newly converted freighter was officially inducted into TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet. Its first revenue flight took place on December 19, connecting Luanda with Lagos, Nigeria. Since then, the B737-800(BCF) has been deployed on routes linking Angola with Nigeria and the Republic of Congo, including Brazzaville.

While TAAG Angola Airlines already operates a B737-700(QC) with a quick-change configuration, the B737-800(BCF) represents the carrier’s dedicated foray into freighter operations, featuring a large cargo door for efficient cargo handling.

In addition to the B737-800(BCF), TAAG Angola Airlines has concurrently expanded its fleet with two more B737-700s, bringing the total number of this aircraft type in its fleet to seven (excluding the QC unit). The airline also operates six DHC-8-Q400s and five B777-300(ER)s. Notably, TAAG Angola Airlines has a firm order for two B787-9s and two B787-10s, demonstrating its commitment to modernizing its fleet.

As part of its strategic vision, TAAG Angola Airlines aims to position Luanda as a new connecting hub for Africa. The airline has plans to lease fifteen A220-300s, further enhancing its capabilities and connectivity in the region. The addition of the B737-800(BCF) to its fleet represents a significant milestone in TAAG Angola Airlines’ growth and diversification strategy.

Stay tuned for further updates on TAAG Angola Airlines’ expanding fleet and its role in developing Luanda into a key aviation hub in Africa.
