TAAG Restores Boeing 777-200ER for Luanda–São Paulo Flights
TAAG Angola Airlines has resumed operations with its restored Boeing 777-200ER, registration D2-TED, on the Luanda to São Paulo route as of March 21, 2025. The widebody aircraft, which had been grounded since 2020, returns to service following an extensive restoration completed by Angolan engineers.
The aircraft’s reintroduction marks a significant step in TAAG’s ongoing fleet recovery plan. The refurbishment included upgraded seating, renewed cabin interiors, and the restoration of essential components, all carried out by local technicians. This move highlights the airline’s commitment to enhancing its long-haul operations while utilizing in-house resources for aircraft maintenance and refurbishment.
Before the Boeing 777-200ER’s return, TAAG had been operating the São Paulo route with its Boeing 777-300ER, registration D2-TEK. This aircraft is now being reassigned to serve the Luanda–Lisbon route, optimizing the airline’s long-haul network.
According to fleet data from ch-aviation, TAAG currently operates a long-haul fleet consisting of three Boeing 777-200ERs, five Boeing 777-300ERs, and one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The airline also has additional aircraft on order, including two Boeing 777-300s, one more Boeing 787-9, and two Boeing 787-10s, indicating plans for future growth and modernization.
TAAG’s reactivation of the 777-200ER not only strengthens its transatlantic service but also reinforces its strategic goal to improve aircraft availability and boost connectivity between Angola and key international destinations like Brazil and Portugal.
