TAAG Angola Airlines is marking a historic milestone with the arrival of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a move that signals a bold new chapter in the carrier’s modernization efforts and celebrates Angola’s rich heritage. The airline proudly introduced the new Boeing B787-9, registered as D2-TEQ and named ‘Namibe,’ which now features a rebranded livery that pays homage to Angola’s cultural legacy.
The reimagined livery embodies Angola’s heritage by showcasing the iconic Palanca—a symbol of national pride—displayed prominently on the aircraft’s tail and engine fuselage. In addition to this striking design, the Dreamliner is adorned with a special logo commemorating Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence, set to be celebrated on November 11, 2025. The milestone anniversary is being celebrated under the slogan “Angola 50 Years: Preserving and Valuing the Achievements Made, Building a Better Future,” which aims to strengthen national pride and unity across the country.
The arrival of the Dreamliner is only the beginning of an ambitious fleet upgrade for TAAG Angola Airlines. This Boeing 787-9 is the first of four Dreamliners scheduled to join the carrier’s fleet, with plans to add an additional 787-9 and two larger 787-10 models in the near future. The strategic introduction of these widebody jets will help replace TAAG’s aging fleet, which currently includes five Boeing 777-300ERs, three 777-200ERs, and seven Next-Generation 737s. With this modernization, the airline is well-positioned to expand its long-haul network and offer a world-class experience to its passengers.
“The delivery of the 787-9 is a pivotal step in our strategy to modernize TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet,” said Nelson Pedro Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines. “This airplane brings the efficiency and versatility we need to meet growing market demands and replace our aging widebody fleet, while delivering a world-class experience to our passengers.” The new Dreamliner’s state-of-the-art technology, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced passenger comfort are expected to open up new opportunities, including the launch of routes to Europe and potential expansion into Asia and North America.
The Dreamliner, leased by AerCap, arrived at Luanda Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Airport (NBJ) on January 29, 2025, from Everett Paine Field (PAE). Its delivery not only represents a major leap forward for TAAG’s operational capabilities but also underscores the airline’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge in an increasingly dynamic aviation market.
Boeing Commercial Sales for Africa Vice President Anbessie Yitbarek remarked, “The 787 Dreamliner will complement TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet of Boeing 737 and 777 jets as we continue to support the airline in its mission to connect people and places across the globe. Our 50-year relationship with TAAG has been built on trust and shared goals, and we look forward to many more years of successful collaboration and innovation together.”
In a country soon to celebrate its 50th anniversary of independence and its 61st Liberation Day on February 4, 2025, the new Dreamliner stands as a symbol of progress and a brighter future. With its modern design and advanced technology, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is set to transform TAAG Angola Airlines’ service, boost market connectivity, and cement its reputation as a key player in the global aviation arena.
