In a significant move towards strengthening air connectivity, Taiwan has unveiled plans to expand regular direct flights to 13 airports in China that were previously only served by charter flights. Transportation Minister Wang Kwo-tsai made the announcement on Tuesday, signaling a significant shift in air travel dynamics between the two regions.

Last week, Minister Wang had already indicated the green light for tour groups to commence visits to China from March 1, 2024. The transition from charter flights to regular direct flights is expected to follow shortly after this date, as reported by Radio Taiwan International (RTI).

The implementation of regular direct flights will be a gradual process, with the commencement of flights contingent on the demand from travelers. Minister Wang anticipates the addition of 13 new destinations to the existing two already serviced by regular direct flights, marking a substantial expansion of air travel options between Taiwan and China.

This move not only signifies an enhancement in bilateral travel opportunities but also reflects a positive step towards normalizing air travel services between the two regions. As demand dictates the pace of this expansion, travelers can anticipate improved accessibility and convenience in their journeys between Taiwan and various destinations in China. Stay tuned for updates as Taiwan further solidifies its commitment to fostering robust air travel connections.
