TAP Air Resumes Porto Alegre Flights in April 2025
TAP Air Portugal will restart flights between Lisbon and Porto Alegre, Brazil, on April 1, 2025, nearly a year after severe flooding in the region forced the route’s suspension. The service will operate three times per week using Airbus A330-900neo aircraft.
The 5,464-mile route was halted in May 2024 following devastating floods in Rio Grande do Sul and nearby areas, which caused extensive damage and closed Porto Alegre’s Salgado Filho International Airport. After months of repairs, the airport fully reopened on December 16, paving the way for TAP’s return.
In a statement, TAP reaffirmed its commitment to restoring this vital connection, highlighting the importance of re-establishing direct flights between southern Brazil and Europe.
The airline’s return to Porto Alegre follows other recent expansions in Brazil. In September, TAP launched a new route to Florianópolis, and in November, it resumed flights to Manaus after an eight-year hiatus. These efforts reflect the airline’s focus on expanding its network in Brazil, leveraging partnerships with Azul and GOL to meet growing demand.
TAP currently serves 13 Brazilian destinations from Lisbon, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, and Salvador, alongside routes connecting Porto to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The carrier holds a 24.3% capacity share in the Europe-Brazil market, leading competitors such as LATAM Airlines Group and Air France-KLM.
Beyond Brazil, TAP is also enhancing its North American network, with new routes to Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco launching in summer 2025.
