Tasman Cargo Seeks Unlimited Hong Kong Cargo Rights
Tasman Cargo Airlines (HJ, Sydney Kingsford Smith) has formally requested the International Air Services Commission (IASC) in Australia to approve unlimited cargo frequencies for its Australia-Hong Kong route. The airline’s application comes in response to the recent announcement of unlimited cargo traffic rights on this sector. In its filing dated November 14, the airline has also requested the revocation of its existing seven-weekly frequency limit in favor of the expanded rights.
Currently, Tasman Cargo operates scheduled international cargo services for DHL International and offers ad hoc domestic and international charter services. The airline’s fleet consists of three Boeing 767-300 freighters, though it often relies on wet-leased Boeing 777 freighters to meet additional demand. Since April, Tasman has been utilizing a Boeing 777-200F, leased from Kalitta Air, to serve the Hong Kong route.
According to the filing, Tasman Cargo will continue to operate with a mix of Boeing 777-200LRF, Boeing 777-300ER freighters, and its own Boeing 767-300Fs for the Hong Kong sector until 2025. At that point, the airline intends to transition to a fully self-sustained fleet, relying solely on its B767 freighters. The change will mark a significant step in the airline’s operations as it reduces its dependency on wet-leased aircraft.
This move aligns with the airline’s long-term strategy to expand its capacity on the highly competitive Australia-Hong Kong cargo route. The request for unlimited frequencies comes as Tasman Cargo aims to enhance its cargo offerings, capitalizing on the growing demand for air freight services in Asia-Pacific.
