Thai AirAsia is expanding its domestic footprint with the addition of Lampang Airport (LPT) as its 25th domestic destination and 34th route in the market, effective from October 1.

Operating daily flights between Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) in Bangkok and Lampang, Thai AirAsia aims to meet the rising demand for domestic travel across Thailand. DMK, previously Bangkok’s main international hub and now a hub for regional and low-cost carrier flights, will serve as the departure point for this new route.

Lampang, the largest city in northern Lampang province and its capital, is noted for its cultural heritage and historical significance. Bangkok Airways currently offers flights between Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and LPT.

Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya expressed confidence in the route’s success, citing a robust 90% average load factor on domestic flights during the first half of 2024. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to enhancing connectivity across Thailand, catering to both domestic travelers and international visitors.

This expansion underscores Thai AirAsia’s strategic efforts to broaden its network and improve accessibility within the country. With the addition of DMK-LPT flights, the airline will operate 612 weekly domestic flights across 34 routes.

For travelers, this new route provides enhanced access to Lampang, complementing existing transportation options like the shuttle buses previously operated between Chiang Mai International Airport and Lampang, a journey spanning approximately 65 miles.
