Thai AirAsia Expands Bangkok Domestic Routes

Thai AirAsia is strengthening its domestic network with the launch of five new routes from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, bringing the low-cost carrier’s total domestic services to 41. Beginning July 1, 2025, the airline will introduce three flights from Suvarnabhumi to Buriram, Narathiwat and Surat Thani, followed by two more connections—Chiang Rai and Nakhon Si Thammarat—on October 1. Executives say the expansion underscores Thai AirAsia’s commitment to linking every corner of Thailand via the capital’s main international gateway.

From July, Suvarnabhumi travelers can board Thai AirAsia’s Airbus A320 jets for three daily round trips to Buriram, a city known for its Khmer temples and motorsport circuit. On the same day, the airline will begin daily service to Narathiwat in Thailand’s southernmost province, offering vital connectivity for business and tourism in an area that has seen limited direct air links. Also on July 1, Suvarnabhumi will gain a new daily link to Surat Thani, the gateway to the islands of Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, enhancing leisure options for weekend and holiday travelers.

Tansita Akraritpirom, Thai AirAsia’s head of commercial, said the carrier is “doubling down on our commitment to domestic connectivity.” She noted that adding these three routes would bring to 11 the number of domestic destinations served from Suvarnabhumi. Prior to this slate of summer launches, Thai AirAsia had already established high-frequency services to six major Thai cities: Chiang Mai (eight daily flights), Phuket (six), Krabi (three), Hat Yai (two), Udon Thani (two) and Khon Kaen (two).

Looking ahead to October, Thai AirAsia will further extend its reach by introducing twice-daily flights between Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Rai, the northern city famous for its golden triangle attractions and tea plantations. On the same date, daily service to Nakhon Si Thammarat will commence, restoring a vital air bridge that supports both local communities and the wider tourism industry in southern Thailand.

Santisuk Klongchaiya, CEO of Thai AirAsia, emphasized that expanding Suvarnabhumi’s domestic network is a strategic priority. “Our goal is to connect every corner of Thailand—from the north to the northeast and south—through Suvarnabhumi,” he said, highlighting the importance of leveraging Bangkok’s primary airport to serve untapped markets and balance traffic across the capital’s dual-airport system.

In addition to its Suvarnabhumi operations, Thai AirAsia continues to maintain a robust network from its original base at Don Mueang International Airport. From Don Mueang, the airline operates 22 domestic routes, including six daily flights to Chiang Rai and five to Nakhon Si Thammarat, ensuring travelers have flexible options across both Bangkok airports. Combined with routes originating from Chiang Mai and Phuket, the carrier’s domestic footprint now spans every major region of Thailand.

Thai AirAsia’s aggressive route growth is supported by its modern fleet and low-cost structure, enabling it to open new markets and stimulate demand in underserved regions. By increasing frequencies and introducing new connections, the airline aims to drive economic development, support regional tourism and provide travelers with convenient, affordable access to Thailand’s cultural, business and leisure hubs. As summer 2025 approaches, passengers can look forward to greater choice and more direct links to destinations that were previously only reachable via multi-leg itineraries.
