The Top Places to Take in the Big Game
Yes, the Super Bowl is about going to the game. But it’s also about combining a bucket list item with a little R&R. That’s why the Super Bowl is mostly played in warm weather sites. But most people combine a little of the game-watching with a vacation, especially those who support their team from a cooler area. With that in mind, here are the best Super Bowl destinations from our perspective.
Dallas, Texas
The first time the NFL held a Super Bowl in Dallas, it was a problem. But every first-time host has its issues, and you can’t control the weather. It’s hard to imagine the NFL not going back to its richest and arguably most influential owner in Jerry Jones.
Palo Alto and Santa Clara, California
The Super Bowl has already been contested in both of these California cities, most recently in 2016. They are close to San Francisco, and each has plenty to see and do. And of course, the beach is nearby.
Detroit, Michigan
Two times the league tried it in Detroit. The first time in Pontiac, a nearby suburb, in 1982. But then they held a Super Bowl in the enclosed downtown facility where the Lions play, at Ford Field, in 2006. Between nearby Greektown, Koreatown, and, of course, the Motown Museum, Detroit is culturally happening.
New York, New York
Yes, it would be ideal if there were an indoor stadium to host the Super Bowl in New York City. But it’s hard to imagine the NFL not coming back to its largest market and the nation’s biggest city. Needless to say, New York is a 24-hour city and offers plenty to do.
Tampa, Florida
The league keeps coming back to Tampa as the Florida Gulf Coast city has hosted as many as five Super Bowls, including Super Bowl LV in 2021. Great weather, beautiful beaches, delicious food and rich culture in areas like Ybor City help set it apart.
Glendale, Arizona
It’s not idyllic by any measure, but it is close to Phoenix and Scottsdale and other popular areas of Arizona. If you feel adventurous, you can even drive to Las Vegas. One thing to be said is they do a very good job of putting on the Big Game here, having hosted three times in the past 15 years, including Super Bowl LVII in 2023.
Los Angeles, California
Although this is where it all began some 57 years ago the old Los Angeles Coliseum isn’t likely to host any more Super Bowls. Instead, the newer technologically advanced SoFi Stadium is the place after hosting Super Bowl LVI in 2022. Of course, this is L.A. Like New York, it’s a town with endless opportunities.
Miami, Florida
If you’re looking to combine your passion for football with a little vacation, this is the spot. It is as far south as you can get and as warm as you can possibly get. The sight lines aren’t the greatest but it is the Super Bowl. Miami is a very cosmopolitan city and a perfect place for showcasing the final game of the season.
New Orleans, Louisiana
The cool thing about New Orleans is that the game is almost an afterthought. This is truly a party town that celebrates almost anything. There’s a reason why this city has hosted the Super Bowl on 10 occasions and will host again in 2025.

Not everybody can get to a premier destination for the Super Bowl, but many do consider it a national holiday. Having a party, or attending a party, with friends and family is probably the next best thing to being there.
