Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is the best destination in the U.S. to celebrate Easter once again in 2023.

That’s according to new research conducted by personal finance website WalletHub, which compared the 100 largest cities in the U.S. based on a dozen key factors contributing to an ideal Easter celebration, including metrics such as candy and chocolate stores per capita, acres of parkland, forecasted precipitation and the share of Christian population, among other things.

Earning a total WalletHub score of 56.06, Pittsburgh ranks fourth nationwide for Easter Observers and third for Easter Traditions. The former category counts for 50 of the possible 100 points and considers share of Christian population and churches per capita.

Meanwhile, Easter Traditions contributes to 30 of the possible 100 points and takes into account things like Google search interest for “Easter Celebration,” meal costs, brunch restaurants, flower and gift shops and candy and chocolate stores per capita as well as the percentage of residents age 5 and over who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Buffalo, New York is up five spots from last year to second overall, also finishing second for Easter Observers, while El Paso, Texas also climbed five spots to rank third just ahead of New Orleans and Birmingham, Alabama.

Other cities to make the top 10 this year include Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas, Albuquerque and St. Louis. Miami is the country’s number-one city for Easter Traditions, followed by Orlando, Pittsburgh, Honolulu and Denver.

Despite ranking 92nd out of 100 cities overall, Anchorage, Alaska finished in first place for Kids’ Easter, which is worth just 10 of 100 possible points and considers the share of children age 9 and younger and acres of parkland per capita. Chesapeake, Virginia; San Bernandino, California; Honolulu and Laredo, Texas round out the top five U.S. cities for a kids’ Easter celebration this year.

The final category analyzed was Easter Weather, which also counted for 10 of a possible 100 points. Thirty-third-ranked Colorado Springs, Colorado ranked first for holiday weather this year, edging out the Las Vegas Valley and the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.
