The Most Exciting New Airline Routes of 2022
Triggering New Wanderlust in 2022
With an expectation of returning to normal, particularly with the hopes that business and international routes come back, airlines are set to introduce some exciting, highly anticipated trips in 2022. Here are 10 of them that should trigger some wanderlust for folks in the respective cities.
Dallas to Helsinki
This will be one of the first new routes of 2022 to start when it launches on February 6 on Finnair. While the carrier has operated in the U.S. prior to this, it was never from the southwest.
Buffalo to Cancun
Scheduled to start on February 18, this is a big coup for Buffalo and western New York. And it’s all part of a big expansion by Frontier Airlines. The route is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Portland to London
This direct flight is another addition from the west coast to London via British Airways. Service was to start on June 3 but has been delayed by the Omicron variant surge. It will still run five days a week.
Long Island (NY) to Charleston (SC)
Upstart Breeze Airways said it would make its mark by utilizing small-market airports, and MacArthur Airport east of New York City is a great under-the-radar airport. The route to Charleston will be two days a week starting February 18.
St. Louis to Frankfurt
The St. Louis Port Authority put its backing and its money on a direct flight to Germany, and it paid off. Lufthansa is scheduled to start the first trans-Atlantic flight from the Midwest city in June.
Newark (NJ) to Tenerife, Spain
Newark is a United hub, and the airline will have no competition for this route to the Spanish hotspot. It will be seasonal starting June 9 and fly three times a week through the end of September.
Washington D.C. to Amman
You would think there would be a nonstop route from the U.S. to Jordan, but this will be the first. United introduces it on May 5, three times a week, for the 11-hour flight. It’s part of one of United’s biggest route expansions ever.
Kansas City to New York
In the midst of JetBlue’s expansion into London comes one of the airline’s new routes as part of the new Northeast Alliance with American Airlines. JetBlue will fly from Kansas City to John F. Kennedy International in New York starting March 27. There is a similar route to KC from Boston.
Los Angeles to Paris
What’s so new about this route? Well, it’s not so much the two famous cities as it is the airline – the new budget carrier French Bee will fly nonstop between LAX and ORY starting four times a week on April 9.
Boston to Athens
This is a brand-new route for Delta, which said it would expand its international routes but so far has done so by mostly resuming flights overseas it had stopped because of COVID. This trip to Greece will start on May 27 and will be the only flight to Athens out of Boston.
