The Most Romantic US Cities for Date Ideas
Finding love can be awfully challenging post-pandemic and in the digital age but, fortunately, some destinations across the U.S. stand out when it comes to generating romance, producing the rare ability to set the mood while putting both you and your date at ease. The team of experts at FROM MARS recently narrowed down the very best U.S. cities for a great date night by looking into the number of restaurants, nightlife venues and romantic places as well as the number of date idea searches across as many as 50 major cities. In the end, each received a total score, with less than half topping 5 out of 10. However, some places excelled. Here’s a look at the 10 most promising destinations for love-seeking travelers.

10. Portland, Oregon
Scoring just 0.01 better than Atlanta, Portland rounds out the list of the top 10 most romantic U.S. cities for a date night in 2022. Despite producing only 12,660 Google searches for date ideas, Portland is home to nearly 3,800 restaurants, close to 180 nightlife venues and more than 150 romantic places as defined by FROM MARS. The city’s dedication to staying weird is also a solid ice breaker and a good excuse in the event that your nerves get the better of you.

9. Los Angeles, California
Elsewhere on the West Coast, Los Angeles’ 44,100 Google searches for date ideas are the second-most of any city in the country. Plus, the City of Angels’ 13,683 restaurants is the most nationwide while its 329 nightlife venues rank fourth. Sprawling L.A. is also one of only six cities with more than 200 romantic places. Just try not to talk about the traffic as the weather is much more uplifting.

8. New York, New York
On the other side of the country, New York City beats out L.A. thanks to its smaller area. The Big Apple offers more than 38 restaurants and 2.6 nightlife venues per square mile and is home to a U.S.-leading 745 romantic places. For perspective, the latter figure is nearly 200 more than the next closest city. In a city bustling with people, travelers have never had a better shot to get to know one in particular.

7. Minneapolis, Minnesota
Perhaps a surprise entry into the top 10 from the Midwest, Minneapolis is firmly in the top 10 on the strength of its limited area (54 square miles). The city offers visitors hundreds of delicious restaurants to choose from as well as dozens of nightlife venues and romantic places both indoor and outdoor. The iconic Mall of America in nearby Bloomington and the picturesque Minnehaha Falls are both excellent places to ignite a new relationship.

6. Las Vegas, Nevada
There’s no such thing as dull in the Entertainment Capital of the World. Las Vegas offers visitors more than 32 restaurants and close to three nightlife venues per square mile but there’s more than just eating, drinking and dancing, which can sometimes be a lot for a first date. Sin City has mind-blowing magic shows, performances by world-class artists and unique attractions like the High Roller and FlyOver Las Vegas.

5. Seattle, Washington
When it comes to finding romance in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle has the crown. After all, the Emerald City offers more than 40 restaurants per square mile and four nightlife venues per square mile. What’s more, FROM MARS found 24,000 Google searches for date ideas in the city and identifies as many as 184 romantic activities, which comes out to 2.2 per square mile. Seattle is also a premier coffee destination for those interested in a more casual date.

4. Chicago, Illinois
Chicago narrowly edges out Seattle for fourth place with a total score of 8.78 out of 10. The Windy City’s 42,500 Google searches for date ideas are the third-most nationwide behind only Houston and L.A. Nonetheless, the city isn’t only interested in love but ready to fuel it with nearly 9,000 restaurants, 460-plus nightlife venues and as many as 240 romantic places.

3. Miami, Florida
South Florida is another phenomenal city to meet someone new or take a relationship to the next level. With a whopping 121 restaurants and 4.69 romantic places per square mile, Miami is the ideal place for date night. The Magic City also ranks second nationwide for the most nightlife venues per square mile at 3.67.

2. Boston, Massachusetts
Boston earned high scores for restaurants and bars—the city is renowned for its charming Irish pubs—and produced the highest number of Google searches for date ideas of any city, helping it to an overall score of 9.34 out of 10. If food and drink aren’t on the itinerary, new friends can also tour the city’s exceptional museums, the historic Freedom Trail or take in a Red Sox game at the bucket-list-worthy Fenway Park.

1. San Francisco, California
The Bay Area might just be the country’s number one destination for romance, receiving a near-perfect date score of 9.44 out of 10. According to FROM MARS, San Francisco boasts the highest density of romantic places and ideas available, with 325 or 6.93 per square mile, in addition to 106 restaurants on average per square mile and nearly seven nightlife venues in the same area, which is by far the most of any city analyzed.
