Three Major Airline Groups Bid for TAP Air Portugal

IAG International Airlines Group has confirmed the submission of its bid to acquire a stake in TAP Air Portugal ahead of the November 22 deadline. The move places IAG alongside two major European competitors—Lufthansa Group and Air France-KLM—which had already declared their interest in the Portuguese flag carrier.
Portugal’s state holding company, Parpública, later verified that no additional bids were received beyond the three aviation giants. The sale process marks a pivotal moment for TAP as the government seeks a strategic partner capable of strengthening the airline’s long-term competitiveness and expanding its transatlantic network.
The competing bids from Europe’s largest airline groups underscore TAP’s strategic value, particularly its strong position on routes linking Europe, Brazil, and Africa.
