Top 10 Most Chaotic Airports in the U.S. Ranked by Delays
Airport travel can be stressful, but some U.S. airports are consistently more chaotic than others. A recent study from Casino of the Kings analyzed data such as flight delays, cancellations, passenger satisfaction, baggage mishandling, and overall operational efficiency to rank the most disruptive airports in the country.
Tampa International Airport tops the list, scoring a perfect 100 on the chaos scale. Over 53% of its flights experience delays, and more than 8% are canceled, making it the most unpredictable airport for travelers.
Following closely is Newark Liberty International Airport, with a disruption score of 90. About 41% of flights are delayed daily, and the airport averages two mishandled bags per 100,000 passengers, adding to the travel headaches.
Orlando International Airport takes third place, where nearly half of the flights (46%) face delays and 5% are canceled. Despite its proximity to popular theme parks, Orlando holds the lowest passenger satisfaction score of all airports surveyed.
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport ranks fourth. As one of the busiest airports in the U.S., it sees an average of 189 daily cancellations, affecting about 10% of its scheduled flights.
Rounding out the top five is New York’s JFK Airport, where 35% of flights face delays and baggage mishandling remains a common issue, with three lost bags per 100,000 travelers.
Other chaotic hubs include Fort Lauderdale, Chicago O’Hare, Las Vegas Harry Reid, Boston Logan, and Miami International. If you’re flying through these airports, plan ahead for delays and disruptions.
