A recent analysis conducted by FloridaPanhandle.com has revealed the top 10 vacation spots that come with a hefty price tag, factoring in costs for accommodations, transportation, dining, and attractions in 100 popular locations.
Here’s a list of the most luxurious destinations that require a generous budget:
- Gustavia, St. Barts
- Gstaad, Switzerland
- Aspen, Colorado
- Park City, Utah
- Maui, Hawaii
- London, England
- Cocoa Island, Maldives
- Maun, Botswana
- Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
- Monte Carlo, Monaco
Notably, this list is dominated by opulent islands and upscale ski towns, with the allure of eco-tourism safaris in Botswana and the bustling financial hub of London rounding out the selection.
When it comes to accommodations, St. Barts in the Caribbean takes the lead as the world’s most expensive vacation destination due to its sky-high average nightly accommodation cost of $1,770. Meanwhile, Gstaad, Switzerland, claims the second spot with average hotel rates of $1,360, boasting the highest average food costs on the list at $177 per day.
Aspen, Colorado, the third most expensive destination, has accommodation averages of $1,385 for an individual traveler, but families of four should anticipate paying around $2,274 according to the analysis. The rates provided by FloridaPanhandle.com were researched based on stays during Christmas (Dec. 21-27) and spring (May 19-25) in four- and five-star hotels, excluding taxes.
Delving into the attractions, FloridaPanhandle.com determined the average costs for each location’s three most-reviewed activities on TripAdvisor. Park City, Utah, renowned for its skiing, had the highest daily average attraction cost at $333. Meanwhile, Botswana’s Maun saw attractions averaging more than $100 per day, including experiences like a one-day visit to the Okavango Delta.
Surprisingly, destinations such as St. Barts and the Maldives featured attractions valued at $0. While luxury travelers might spend extravagantly on hotels, they can enjoy the beauty of their beaches without additional charges.
Interestingly, Monte Carlo had one of the lowest average attraction rates on the list, which is unexpected for a thriving gambling destination. A representative from FloridaPanhandle.com explained that while casinos are an iconic aspect of Monte Carlo, they aren’t the most popular attraction in town. The top three attractions in Monte Carlo include the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, Casino Square, and the Casino of Monte Carlo, with an entrance fee of 18 euros ($20). Notably, gambling losses were not included in the calculation of Monte Carlo’s average attraction costs.
