Transair Hawaii adds first B737-400 freighter

Transair Hawaii (R9, Honolulu) is set to add its first B737-400(SF), having registered B737-400 N251AU (msn 25104) in late April 2021, ch-aviation research has shown.

The 28.2-year-old Boeing aircraft was previously operated in a passenger configuration by Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma Int’l) and Flair Airlines (F8, Kelowna). The latter retired it during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 and, after a spell of storage at Calgary, ferried it to Tampa Int’l on August 4, 2020. Although it was acquired and registered by Transair by late April 2021, the jet was only reactivated on June 28, 2021, for a ferry flight to Dothan for conversion, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.

Transair Hawaii, which is a division of Trans Executive Airlines (R9, Honolulu), announced the signing of a conversion contract with Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. (AEI) in February 2021.

Transair and Trans Executive Airlines jointly operate seven Shorts 360s, one B737-200, two B737-200(C)s, and one B737-300(F). Two of the freighters are active on cargo runs within Hawaii, while the other two aircraft are in storage. Trans Executive Airlines also owns Rhoades Aviation (T4, Honolulu), which operates an additional two B737-200 dedicated freighters active within Hawaii.
