TransNusa Expands Perth Flights, Ends Low-Cost Carrier Model

TransNusa is expanding its international footprint by increasing flights on the Denpasar to Perth International route, while shifting away from its low-cost carrier model. The Indonesian airline announced on June 2 that it will increase frequencies on the route to 11 times weekly starting July 2, and further to 14 weekly flights from July 18. TransNusa launched services to Perth in March, marking its first destination beyond Southeast Asia, and currently operates the route using a 174-seat Airbus A320-200.

TransNusa CEO Bernard Francis stated the carrier remains committed to operating as a full-service airline on international routes, even with a single-cabin configuration. The airline also plans to adopt a full-service model for its domestic network, pending approval from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. This transition aligns with the company’s broader strategy to enhance passenger experience and position itself as a premium, service-oriented brand.

Francis emphasized that the airline’s focus is on customer comfort, saying the model shift reflects TransNusa’s goal of becoming a secure and caring brand with premium service credentials.

In addition to its expanded service to Australia, TransNusa operates scheduled flights to six airports across Indonesia, as well as international services to Singapore Changi, Kuala Lumpur International, and Guangzhou. Its fleet includes four Airbus A320-200s, two A321-200s, and three COMAC ARJ21-700 (C909) aircraft.

This move signals TransNusa’s ambition to compete with regional full-service carriers and attract travelers seeking alternatives to budget airline experiences.
