If you’re looking for a cheap domestic getaway, you might want to book your flights soon. According to a report by travel app Hopper, domestic airfare is on the decline in August, but it will start to rise again as the holiday season approaches.

Hopper predicts that the average cost of a domestic flight will drop 2 percent in August, averaging about $267 per ticket. This is down 11 percent from both this time last year and this time in 2019. However, these low prices won’t last long, as airfare is expected to increase in October and November, reaching an average of $283 per ticket for last-minute Thanksgiving and Christmas bookings.

Hopper’s lead economist Hayley Berg told Travel + Leisure that the early fall “shoulder season” is often one of the cheapest times of the year to travel, and you’ll experience less crowds as kids head back to school. She also said that international airfare will not see the same relief, as demand and capacity remain high for destinations across Europe and Asia.

Some of the most popular domestic destinations for fall travel are Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, and Boston, according to Hopper. If you’re looking for an international escape, Cancun is currently the most booked destination, with round-trip flights averaging just $288.

To find the best deals on airfare, Hopper recommends booking at least three weeks in advance, being flexible with your dates and airports, and setting up price alerts on the app. You can also use Hopper’s price prediction feature to see if it’s a good time to buy or wait.

Don’t miss this opportunity to save on your domestic travel plans. Book your flights today and enjoy the beauty of fall without breaking the bank.
