Troy Smith Takes the Helm at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island

Royal Caribbean has announced the appointment of Troy Smith as General Manager of the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, marking a significant milestone for the company’s first beach club experience. Smith, a longtime Royal Caribbean employee with over two decades of expertise in maritime and hospitality operations, brings a wealth of experience from his previous role as Director of Island Operations at Perfect Day at CocoCay. In his new position, he will be responsible for overall operations at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, ensuring world-class guest experiences for millions of visitors each year, promoting operational excellence and safety, and overseeing a workforce of more than 500 staff members.
As a proud Bahamian, Smith expressed his enthusiasm about leading a project that celebrates local culture and provides valuable opportunities for the community. “I am truly honored to take on the role of General Manager at the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island. As a Bahamian, it is incredibly rewarding to lead a project that celebrates our culture and provides opportunities for our local community,” he said. His appointment reflects Royal Caribbean’s commitment to building a strong Bahamian management team and partnering with local businesses to create an experience that not only embodies the beauty and spirit of The Bahamas but also directly benefits the local community.
Philip Simon, President of Royal Caribbean in the Bahamas, praised Smith’s appointment, noting that his extensive experience at Perfect Day at CocoCay made him the natural choice for this new role. “I’m delighted Troy is bringing his two decades of expertise operating and creating incredible guest experiences at Perfect Day at CocoCay to the management team at Royal Beach Club Paradise Island,” Simon said. He added that it is fulfilling to see the beach club taking shape under the guidance of local talent, further solidifying the company’s dedication to The Bahamas and its people.
Smith’s career at Royal Caribbean began in 2007 when he joined as Assistant Site Manager at CocoCay. Over the years, he advanced to Site Manager and later Director of Island Operations, where he successfully led seven divisions including inventory management, general operations, lifeguard services, shore excursions, entertainment, and guest experience. His responsibilities extended to managing relationships with government agencies, local vendors, and third-party partners, as well as ensuring smooth operations and compliance during major projects like the construction of Perfect Day at CocoCay. With a strong background in port logistics, ship operations, procurement, security, and vendor management, Smith is well-equipped to drive efficiency and cost-effectiveness in his new role.
The Royal Beach Club Paradise Island is part of the new Royal Beach Club Collection and continues to evolve ahead of its opening in December 2025. The project embodies the unique charm of The Bahamas, combining the idyllic location, Bahamian food, culture, and local staffing with the signature service and design touches that Royal Caribbean is known for. Through a unique public-private partnership with The Bahamas, the new beach club aims to deliver a luxurious and immersive experience that celebrates both the heritage and future of the region.
Smith’s appointment underscores Royal Caribbean’s strategy to enhance guest experiences and invest in leadership that resonates with local culture. With his proven track record and deep understanding of the operational challenges in delivering exceptional island experiences, Troy Smith is set to lead Royal Beach Club Paradise Island into a new era of innovative and culturally enriched travel.
