Bryan Bedford, CEO of Republic Airways, has been appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the agency overseeing U.S. air traffic control operations and Boeing’s safety reforms. This role involves managing the U.S. Air Traffic Organization and ensuring aviation safety following a series of high-profile incidents, including recent Boeing 737 MAX safety concerns.

Trump, in a statement on his Truth Social platform, highlighted Bedford’s three decades of aviation experience and emphasized the importance of reforming the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve air traffic control systems and ensure the safety of nearly one billion annual passengers.

Bedford expressed his commitment to modernizing air traffic control to create a safer, more efficient aviation network, noting that success will require bipartisan support and cooperation across all levels of government and the aviation community.

This appointment comes on the heels of FAA restrictions on helicopter traffic around Washington’s Ronald Reagan airport after a tragic crash that killed 67 people. The FAA has also been working closely with Boeing to address safety issues following multiple incidents with the 737 MAX aircraft.

The new role, requiring Senate confirmation, is pivotal as Boeing and the FAA continue to implement reforms and address staffing challenges within the air traffic control system.
