TSA Expands Touchless ID with Major US Airlines

The Transportation Security Administration is expanding its PreCheck Touchless ID program, allowing travelers to use facial recognition technology to move more quickly through airport security checkpoints. The system eliminates the need to show a physical ID or boarding pass, streamlining the process while maintaining strict security standards.

Delta Air Lines was the first carrier to launch the program in partnership with TSA at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in 2021. Since then, the service has broadened to include American Airlines, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, giving millions of passengers the option to enroll in a faster, more efficient screening experience.

PreCheck Touchless ID uses secure biometric technology to match a traveler’s face with their government-issued identification on file, reducing wait times and minimizing contact at crowded checkpoints. TSA officials emphasized that participation is optional, and passengers can still choose traditional document checks if they prefer.

The expansion comes as airports across the United States face record passenger volumes, with airlines and TSA working to improve efficiency while enhancing security. The program is particularly beneficial for frequent flyers and business travelers who prioritize speed and convenience.

Airline partners see the initiative as a way to improve the customer experience, offering passengers a smoother and less stressful journey from check-in to boarding. As biometric solutions continue to gain traction, Touchless ID could become a standard feature in air travel, combining advanced technology with traveler convenience and reinforcing TSA’s commitment to innovation in aviation security.
