TUI’s New Embraer E195-E2 Plane Named “Flanders” Takes Off from Antwerp Airport
TUI, the renowned airline, has introduced the first of its three brand-new Embraer E195-E2 planes into service. The inaugural jet was christened “Flanders” during a splendid ceremony held at Antwerp Airport (ANR) on June 19, 2023.
In the coming weeks, “Brussels” and “Wallonia” will follow suit as the names of the two other E195-E2 aircraft that are set to replace all existing planes at Antwerp Airport. The first flight of “Flanders,” with registration OO-ETB, took off from Antwerp under the flight number TB1001.
Gunther Hofman, the managing director of TUI fly Western Region, expressed his excitement during the ceremony, stating, “Since our launch in 2004, we have consistently focused on introducing the most modern and innovative airplanes. The Embraer E195-E2 marks yet another significant milestone for us. As the sole Belgian airline operating Embraer jets, we boast unparalleled expertise in their operation and maintenance.”
TUI now operates an extensive network comprising approximately 130 airplanes, and with the addition of E195-E2 planes, the airline gains an impressive extra travel distance of 4,000 kilometers.
One of the key reasons behind TUI’s choice of Embraer jets was the short runway at Antwerp. The E195-E2’s capabilities allow the airline to operate seamlessly from this airport. Elie Bruyninckx, CEO of TUI Western Region, elaborated, “With the enhanced range of over 4,000 kilometers, we can now include highly sought-after destinations like the Canary Islands, the Turkish Riviera, and the Greek islands in our Antwerp network. Looking ahead, we may further expand our schedule to swiftly transport our guests to their favorite holiday spots from Antwerp.”
TUI’s investment in the Embraer E195-E2 reflects its commitment to staying at the forefront of aviation technology, enabling enhanced travel experiences for its passengers.
