Turkish Airlines Boosts IST-SYD Daily Service
Turkish Airlines is set to significantly increase its connectivity between Istanbul and Sydney, with plans to ramp up services on the route using its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900. The airline, which launched its inaugural flight to Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) on November 28, 2024, is moving quickly to meet growing demand, with daily services scheduled to begin on January 12, 2026.
Initially, Turkish Airlines operated a four-weekly service from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Sydney, with flights routed via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). However, following the successful launch and strong market response, the carrier has announced a progressive schedule increase throughout 2025. From mid-June 2025, the frequency will be raised to five-weekly services, followed by an increase to six-weekly flights from the end of October 2025. This gradual ramp-up is designed to ensure operational efficiency and build passenger confidence, ultimately paving the way for a daily service within the next few months.
The current itinerary on the IST-SYD route involves a connection in Kuala Lumpur, which allows Turkish Airlines to offer a seamless travel experience while optimizing aircraft utilization. The Airbus A350-900, known for its superior fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and long-haul performance, is the ideal choice for such a demanding international route. Sydney Airport’s Group Executive, Aviation Growth and Group Strategy, Greg Botham, welcomed the expansion, describing it as “a tremendous vote of confidence in the strength of the market.” Botham emphasized that the new schedule would not only enhance connectivity but also solidify Sydney Airport’s position as the premier international gateway in Australia. “This expansion will provide even greater connectivity between Australia and Turkey for both business and leisure travellers. It confirms Sydney Airport as Turkish Airlines’ leading gateway in Australia,” he said.
